‘We began as strangers, but are now like a family’, said one during this final session in our 8 week project.
‘I am not alone’, said another.
We gathered and heard the most remarkable testaments of love. After an abundant and delicious shared lunch, we reviewed our books and our 8 sessions, had a dance and went on our ways.
I found alternative ways to communicate with people with dementia
Remembering childhood experiences I’d forgotten like falling into a sandpit, my first house
The power of well supported groups
Being ourselves in a safe environment
The power of music in remembering
Waiting 10 seconds before interrpting!
That everyone is human and has ups and downs in their lives
I want to dig out my own childhood photographs now and make my own book of memories
So interesting to hear what others have done in their lives
I enjoyed it all. The friendliness and warmth of everyone.
Loved making the book, and finding stories from friends and relations which I did not know about.
Greatly enjoyed the company of many of the group. A great chance to evaluate ones life, hopes and dreams.
I learned to be blatant and honest with the person with dementia
Enjoyed all of the different sessions.
Found photos of the family years ago that had not been thought of for ages.
Loved the wedding and wedding stories
Thinking about mum, childhood, parents being together
Talking with other participants and new neighbours, making connections.
A chance to re-evaluate your life
Enjoyed school life and film week, hearing others stories
Improved my listening skills!
Learned not to ask questions like ‘remember when… or When was that?!
Relaxed atmosphere, among friends, great help to express ourselves
The family love the memory book
